It has helped her to continue an everyday life – where the pain is a constant – but where they are not allowed to stop her from living the life she wants.
”My life was totally changed Everything I thought would come to be didn’t turn out that way. So now it was my own responsibility to try and reinvent myself. Now, what could I contribute? What was my role in life ? Who was I?…. It requires that you choose to create a good life for yourself despite the pain. But you can do that” (Christine).

”Why go your whole life thinking that you are in pain? Why not give and enjoy what you can?” (Ole).
Ole has chronic pain, and it will never go away again. He does not feel limited by the pain, but by himself. He sees himself as the only one who can set the limits – and choose the joy. This is how Ole lives with his pain.
”I was active in the gymnastics association… scout life…captain in the Danish Home Guard…And suddenly not being able to do it, it was really hard. Also in terms of family, I couldn’t do the same either – to go on trips and other things, because I didn’t have the energy. I only had pains until I kind of learned to live with it ….. Why not put in the effort and enjoy what you can? I have found a way to find joy in the smaller things which makes my everyday life good for me?” (Ole).

”I don’t want to let my chronic pain define me, because I feel that I am so much more than that” (Mie).
Meet Mie, who was diagnosed with chronic nerve pain when she was just 17 years old. And although it has been difficult for Mie to accept at such an early age that the life she thought she was going to live would never be what she expected, she has nevertheless learned to accept her new life conditions.
”There, it was difficult for me to look forward how I would be able to live with this condition ….. I will not let my chronic pain define me because I feel that I am so much more than that …. It’s part of my history and it has also been part of my journey. But it’s still just a fraction of who I am …. but I want to chase the things which I have always dreamed of” (Mie).
